Youi Insurance App
Youi is an Australian insurance company that personalises services to meet individual customer needs. Youi offers a range of insurance products, including vehicle, home, and business insurance, emphasising commitment to customer service and community engagement. The Youi App includes features that facilitate policy management, including requesting a quote on a new policy, starting and tracking claims, requesting roadside assistance, and more.
The Problem
Youi built the previous version of the Youi app using Xamarin, which will reach end-of-life in May 2024. After that, Microsoft will no longer provide fixes, updates, or technical assistance.
Xamarin's end-of-life is a significant problem for any Xamarin app, as the absence of fixes and updates presents new risks. For example, end-of-life means Microsoft will not fix undiscovered security flaws in Xamarin after the end-of-life date, and this is a considerable risk for any company that built an app with Xamarin.
Youi identified Flutter, created by Google, as the technology of choice to replace Xamarin. Youi contacted Google, who recommended Code Heroes to help build the next version of the Youi app in Flutter.
What we did
To move the Youi app from Xamarin to Flutter, Youi would need to upskill the in-house Xamarin team and redevelop the entire Youi app in Flutter before the looming Xamarin end-of-life date.
The Code Heroes team is ideally suited to help as we moved from Xamarin to Flutter in 2018. We had lived the journey that Youi needed to take.
Working as a single team, affectionally known in both organisations as Chyoui (pronounced Chewy) as in Code Heroes or CH+Youi, we worked to simultaneously redevelop the Youi app in Flutter and upskill the Youi development team to work with Flutter.
Youi benefited by leveraging our years of experience working with the technology to learn from our best-in-class approach, delivered in a concise timeframe and transfer knowledge to allow them to continue to develop and support the Flutter app in-house.
